Camp Reflection

This year at Camp M.E.R.C 2015 the thing I enjoyed the most was body-boarding because when you do catch a wave is is so fun if it is big because it literally throws you at the shore.

Something I learnt was how to load and fire a bow, how rip tides work and why you should swim between the flags at a beach.

Something that surprised me was how hard it was to fire a bow accurately, how far apart the rungs on the Giant's Ladder were and how hard Stack'em high was.

The thing I was most proud of was being able to climb to the top of the Giant's Ladder and hit the target in Archery.Advice I would give to the next Year 6s would be to push yourself but know your limits because it makes everything far more fun.

Camp M.E.R.C Did You Ever Poem

Did You Ever

Did you ever
Climb the Giant’s Ladder
At Camp M.E.R.C?
Rungs wobbling
Harness wedging
Instructor encouraging
It’s worth it!

Did you ever
Go Body-Boarding
At Long Bay?
Waves crashing
Feet kicking
Eyes stinging
I’m addicted

Did you ever
Go Mountain Biking
To a haunted house?
Manikin stalking
Instructor deceiving
Girls squealing
So creepy

Did you ever
Play stack’em high
At Camp M.E.R.C?
Tower wobbling
Feet slipping
Wind disturbing
Try it!

Did you ever
Sleep in a dorm
With 24 other boys?
Beds creaking
Head aching
Boys snoring
Don’t do it!

Email To Kings

Dear Oscar,

Our names are Caleb, Earl, Oliver and Khristian.  We live in Auckland and are in Room 21 at Elm Park School.

Thank you Oscar for taking the time to send the letter to us.  It was very  interesting to read.  We learnt a lot about recycling and pollution.  We never knew that there were huge holes in Ozone Layer and that we could get sunburnt in just 5 minutes.

In our class we have been learning about soil and how important it is to the Environment.  We have learned that soil is used in many different ways. Some of the uses for soils are that is soaks up water which helps regulate floods.  It is also used for storing carbon which helps to modify what is in the atmosphere.  Also incredibly the bacteria in it is used in over 60% of cancer drugs!  Did you know that there is more bacteria in a teaspoon of soil than there are people on Earth.   Scientists have only figured out 1% of those bacteria.  The other 99% bacteria could be the cure for all the world’s diseases.

Thank you for reading our letter.

Yours Sincerely

Oliver, Khristian, Earl and  Caleb B.

About The Artist

Learning Reflection

I am learning how to write in the third person.
I am so proud of remembering to write in the third person.
It can be tricky to remember to use words like he, him and his instead of I.
My buddy can help me by giving me ideas and pointing out mistakes.
The next step for me is to learn more about writing in first and second person.

SALT Spelling Strategy

Spelling Graph Reflection

I am learning to learn how to use the SALT spelling strategy to spell new words and to use them in my writing.
I am so proud of learning these words so that I can use them more often in my writing.
It can be tricky to spell long words.
My buddy can help me to learn how to spell the hard words.
The next step for me in my learning might be to try to learn harder words.

Learning Reflection
I am learning to write a detailed recount about the ANZAC landings.
I am so proud of being able to do this all by myself.
It can be tricky to think of a good title and hook.
The teacher can help me by giving me ideas and pointing out my mistakes
The next step for me is to do this again on another topic

Learning in Room 21 - Y Chart

Learning Reflection

I am learning to make a Y Chart about learning in Room 21.
I am so proud of not having to copy too much information from the example Y Chart.
The example could help me by giving me ideas.
It can be tricky to think of words that are more descriptive.
The next step for me might be to use more descriptive words.
